Grading Procedures

During the school year, students will receive two report cards, one at the end of each semester. In addition, 3 interim reports will be issued each semester: one after 4 1/2 weeks, one after 9 weeks, and one after 13 1/2 weeks. The semester report card will be a cumulative grade of the entire semester’s work based on points earned divided by points possible. Interim grades are cumulative as well. When calculating percentages to determine a letter grade, .50 and above will always be rounded off to the next highest number.

Curriculum

In order for Denham Springs High School to provide you with the best possible education, you must take the responsibility of choosing courses that will help you achieve your goals. In accordance with state requirements, each student must complete and have on file a “Five Year Plan” that is reviewed annually.

In choosing your courses, keep in mind that you need to be striving for the following:

1. Courses that will help prepare you for a particular career;

2. Courses that will prepare you for college or other advanced training;

3. Courses that are required for TOPS, if applicable;

4. Courses that will allow you to develop or expand areas that are of particular interest to you.

It is important that you make selections that meet state requirements for graduation and TOPS, and that are helpful in meeting your individual needs. You are not allowed to change teachers or courses once schedules are issued, so you should give serious consideration to your selections.
