Students and Parents,

 

First, and most importantly, I hope that you and your families are doing well and coping with this disruption in our lives and routines. I also want to say how much I miss you guys already. While it has been anything but quiet up here the past two days, I would much rather it be you keeping me busy than what we are all currently going through. I need to take this time to communicate openly about what school is going to look like during this closure.

During our time Monday and Tuesday, teachers have transitioned their classrooms to an online platform called google classroom. Most (if not all) of our students are already familiar with this platform and have used it in one or more of their classes. Students can access their classroom codes through their teacher’s webpage. A link to teacher webpages is here https://www.denhamspringshs.org/ or can be accessed through the DSHS App (our primary communication portal). Parents, we have posted a guide to using google classroom on our webpage should you need more help. Students, please go to and begin working on this material as soon as you can. These lessons are designed to help you move forward with meaningful instruction. While it cannot replace face to face instruction, it will help to bridge the gap between that and nothing.

We will have meals for students available on Wednesday March 18th, Monday the 23rd, and Wednesday the 25th. This will be done as a drive through from 11:00am-1:00pm. You should enter from the north side of school off Robbie St., by Northside Baptist Church. Then proceed toward Hornsby gym, turn right when you get to the cafeteria parking lot, then exit left or right onto Yellow Jacket Blvd. to leave. Remain in your vehicle at all times. Parents/guardians/relatives may come to pick up meals on their child’s behalf. Student does not need to be present.

SENIORS, I know you have a lot of questions, and unfortunately I do not have many answers for you yet. When we know more about the impact and duration of this closure, I will be able to provide you with information regarding Prom, Senior awards banquet, and other activities. You guys have weathered a rough high school career. It started with the flood of 2016 and it is ending with Covid 2020. If you guys aren’t the toughest graduating class of the modern era, I don’t know who would be.

Students, I meant what I said earlier. I miss you guys. The best part of my job is being around you. As difficult as I know these next few weeks will be for all of us, I know from watching you that you are up to the task. Take care of yourselves, your families, and take care of your Yellow Jacket brothers and sisters! I will see y’all soon.

Academic Recovery

Any student who has a missing quiz or test, is subject to be assigned to “Academic Recovery”. This will give the student an opportunity to redeem the “0” in PowerSchool.

Academic Recovery will be held every Thursday after school until 4:00. This is an assigned after school obligation (just like detention). This program will ensure that our students stay on track with their academic progress
